Geocoding API

One clean REST API for every address job.

Predictable JSON, plain HTTP and an API key. If you can make a request, you can geocode, from a single lookup to millions of rows.

01Forward geocoding

Send a full or partial address and get back latitude and longitude, a standardised address and an accuracy score. Typos, abbreviations, unit numbers and missing postcodes are handled for you.

GET /v1/geocode?q=…
02Reverse geocoding

Turn a GPS point into the nearest street address, suburb or city and postcode. Built for fleet pings, check-ins and photo metadata.

GET /v1/reverse?lat=…&lng=…
03Batch geocoding

Post up to 10,000 addresses in one request and get results back in the same order. Run batches in parallel for jobs in the millions.

POST /v1/geocodePOST /v1/reverse
04Address parsing & standardisation

Split messy input into unit, number, street, locality, state and postcode, normalise abbreviations and return one consistent format, ready for deduplication.

GET /v1/parse?q=…
05Data appends

Add ABS statistical areas, councils, electorates or timezones to any lookup with one parameter. No second vendor and no spatial joins on your side.

&fields=asgs,lga,electorate
06Distance & matrices

Straight-line distance between any set of addresses or coordinates, without geocoding them first. Drive time and drive distance are on the roadmap.

GET /v1/distanceDrive time soon

Spreadsheet geocoding

Geocode a spreadsheet without writing a line of code.

For analysts, ops and research teams: upload, pick what you need, download. Same engine, same accuracy as the API.

  1. 01

Upload a CSV or Excel file

One address column or split across street, suburb, state and postcode. We detect the layout.

  2. 02

    Choose your data appends

ABS areas, councils, electorates and more, added as new columns.

  3. 03

    Download the enriched file

Your original rows, untouched, with coordinates and accuracy alongside. Large files welcome.

Data appends

More than a pin on a map.

Every Australian address sits inside dozens of official boundaries. Ask for them by name and they come back with the result, from the same request.

Accuracy you can read

Every result tells you how sure we are.

No silent guesses. Each match carries an accuracy type and a score from 0 to 1, so your code can accept a rooftop hit and send a postcode-level fallback for review.

Typos, abbreviations, unit numbers and missing postcodes are cleaned up before matching, and a weak match is never dressed up as a rooftop hit.

  • rooftop

A point on the building itself.

    1.00
  • property

The centre of the land parcel, used when the building isn't mapped.

    0.90
  • street

The street was found but not the number. Placed along the street.

    0.60
  • locality

Centre of the suburb or town.

    0.40
  • postcode

Centre of the postcode area. The last resort, clearly labelled.

Why Geokite

Built to be trusted with your customer list.

Geocoding touches your most sensitive data: where your customers live. We designed every part of the service around that.

No third parties in the loop

Every lookup is answered from our own database. Your addresses are never forwarded to Google, Mapbox or any other provider.

Keep your results forever

Cache them, store them, put them on any map. No display restrictions and no expiry on the coordinates you paid for.

Minimal data retention

We keep what billing needs and nothing more. Uploaded spreadsheets are deleted automatically after you download the result.

Pricing you can forecast

Pay per thousand lookups or a flat monthly fee. No seat licences, no surprise overages and no annual lock-in.

Engineers on support

Questions are answered by the people who build the geocoder, not a ticket queue reading from a script.

Transparent data sources

Every result names the official dataset it came from, so you can audit a match and explain it to your own customers.

What is geocoding?

Geocoding turns a street address into latitude and longitude coordinates. Reverse geocoding does the opposite: it turns coordinates into the nearest address. Geokite does both for Australian addresses, one at a time or in batches, and can attach ABS statistical areas, councils, electorates and timezones to each result.

Which countries does Geokite cover?

Geokite covers every address in Australia, across all states and territories, down to individual units and apartments. The United States, Canada and the United Kingdom are coming soon, and you can ask to be notified when each one launches.

How accurate is Geokite?

Most addresses resolve to a rooftop or property-level point, even when the input has typos, abbreviations or a missing postcode. Every result includes an accuracy type and a score from 0 to 1, so you always know how precise a match is and can decide what to trust.

Can I store the coordinates I get back?

Yes. Results are yours to keep, cache and use on any map or in any database, with no requirement to display them on a particular map provider.

Do you send my addresses to Google or other providers?

No. Every lookup is answered from our own database, built from official open address data. Your addresses are never forwarded to a third-party geocoder.

How much does geocoding cost?

The first 2,500 lookups every day are free. After that it is $0.45 per 1,000 lookups, with no minimums, or $799 a month for unlimited lookups. Enterprise plans with on-premise deployment and custom terms are available.

Can I geocode a spreadsheet without writing code?

Yes. Upload a CSV or Excel file, choose the address columns and the data you want appended, and download the same file with coordinates and the extra columns added.

How many addresses can I geocode at once?

The batch endpoint accepts up to 10,000 addresses per request. For larger jobs, send several batches in parallel or upload a spreadsheet.

Start geocoding in five minutes.

Grab a free key, make one request, see a rooftop come back. 2,500 lookups a day are on us.
